The West Midlands Level 1 to 3 Rhythmic Championships took place at GMAC on Sunday May 14th. The Region’s newest club – Coventry Empire – won their first Regional titles with Nora Szabo being crowned the Level 1 Under 12 Hoop Champion and Louisa Harrington Level 1 Under Free Champion. Other winners in the Level 1 Championships – which are for gymnasts who have done less than five competitions were:-
In the Level 2 section – which is for gymnasts who are still working on the Basic Code but who have more experience than the Level 1 gymnasts, Mckenzie Hickman (Elena) and Rebecca Dishova (City of Birmingham) both won two titles with Mckenzie winning the Junior Ball and Ribbon sections and Rebecca the Under 12 Hoop and Ball sections. Other winners in the Level 2 Championships were Sophie Marley (Elena – Under 10 Free) and Francesca Tacud (Elena – Under 10 Hoop).
Level 3 is judged according to the FIG code and is for gymnasts who did not qualify/did not attempt to qualify for this year’s NDP Finals. Megan Lumsden (Worcester), Camone-Bleu Gordon (City of Birmingham) and Ruby Beaven (Elena) won the Senior, Junior and Under 12 titles respectively.
For the first time, an open section was included in the event, with gymnasts from Oxford, Penrith, Ribble Valley, Ribby Hall, Stockport and Trafford in attendance. All of the Level 1 titles went to gymnasts from the West Midlands mentioned above – although Athini had to share her title with Evie O’Sullivan from Stockport. In the Level 2 section, Mckenzie was the Open Junior Ball Champion, Sophie the Open Under 10 Free Champion and Francesca the Open Under 10 Hoop Champion, while in the Senior Open, all three West Midlands gymnasts won their respective sections.
