The Lord Mayor of Sheffield joined young gymnasts at a special event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sheffield Workshop Gymnastics Club.
The event on Saturday 20th December marked a week-long celebration where almost 400 children from across Sheffield and South Yorkshire, aged between 4 to 16 years old, demonstrated their amazing gymnastic skills to family and friends alongside the 50-strong multi-prize winning competitive squad.
Sheffield Workshop Gymnastics Club was launched in 1994 by Head Coach, Paula Belton, who trained as a gymnast from 10-years-old and started coaching at just 14. Paula has successfully completed many coaching and judging qualifications to achieve her current status of High Performance Coach.
Commenting on the Club’s landmark anniversary, Paula said:
“In the early years, the Club had a team of just 4 coaches. Twenty years later our gymnasts compete up to the highest level in Yorkshire and at national competitions and are supported by a team of 30 coaches, many of whom are our own experienced ex-gymnasts.”
