Disability Awareness Module

Throughout this course you will gain the confidence to support disabled participants within your coaching sessions. The skills you will develop during this course are applicable across all gymnastics disciplines. 

This course is not a requirement, however it is recommended that it is taken when working with disabled participants in order to raise awareness and progress your coaching ability. 

This course is open to anyone aged 13 or over who has completed a BG recognised coaching or instructing course.

Who is this Aimed at:

This award is designed to be accessible for any level of coach working within any discipline.

What To Expect:

An informative course focused on disability awareness. This course will cover the social model of disability, terminology, barriers and solutions, practical advice and examination of key theories and models for inclusion.

Delivery Method:

7 hours (one day) practical based.

Pre Requisites:

The minimum age for this course is 13 and learners must hold a Helper, Award Scheme Coach, Level 1, Gymnastics Activity Instructor or above qualification.

Learner must be at least 13 years old on the first day of the course

Practical Delivery:

  • Learners will be guided through various scenario based coaching situations where they can learn useful strategies to conduct really effective gymnastics sessions which include disabled people with a range of different impairments. The practical will also focus on adaptations to gymnastics skills and progressions which help in the coaching of disabled people.

Certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the course.
