Strong opening day for Great Britain in the USA

aaaaaaaaaacroMonday, 16 April 2012, Lake Buena Vista: All the British competitors demonstrated class and excellent preparation in the first day of the Qualifications of the 23rd World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex.

In three of the disciplines only one routine was competed today and the other two will follow in the Qualifications tomorrow:

Women’s Pairs: Poppy Spalding & Alanna Baker are leading the field with 28.257pts, ahead of Ukraine 28.231 and Belarus 27.609

 Men’s Pairs: Adam McAssey & Edward Upcott are in second position, 27.802 following closely Russia, 28.000.


Men’s Group: Dorian Walker, Jesse Heskett, Richard Hurst, Matthew Evison - in third position before the Combined exercise tomorrow- 27.590 (RUS 1-27.818 and RUS2 -27.631 in front of them, but only one group per country is allowed to compete in the Final).

 Women’s Groups: Liliana Walduck, Casey Morrison & Amber Campbell-White are in fifth 54.667 position, while   Madeleine Gamblin, Katherine Spence & Kristie Harrington committed a mistake in the Dynamic Exercise today and moved back to seventh position, 53.759.

Good chances to make the Final in the Mixed Pairs have Chris McGreevy & Emily McCarthy-in eight position after the two routines today (54.580)

The competition continues tomorrow from 10 am with the Team Award ceremony taking place at 8:10 local time.
