2012 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics European championships - GB team announcement.
British Gymnastics is delighted to announce the senior and junior men’s artistic gymnasts selected to represent Great Britain at the 2012 European Championships 23rd-27th May in Montpellier (FRA).
For the senior gymnasts the European Championships form part of their preparation for the London 2012 Games with all gymnasts selected looking to push their claim for the full Olympic team to be announced on July 4th.
They are joined by experienced GB team members Kristian Thomas and Ruslan Panteyleymonov, along with Max Whitlock, who having travelled as reserve to the 2011 World Championships, now finds his place in the senior team. The seniors will compete in team and individual apparatus competitions.
British Gymnastics Olympic Performance Director Tim Jones: “We have had to make some difficult decisions when selecting both teams for this event, with the competition for places being tougher than ever.
We are convinced our senior team can maintain its strong progress towards London 2012, and look forward to our juniors continuing our strong recent tradition of producing excellent European junior results.”
British Gymnastics men’s technical director Eddie Van Hoof said: “These European Championships serve as an important challenge ahead of the Olympic Games and an opportunity for our senior team members to promote their performance on the world stage. We have a very strong squad and with Sam Oldham and Dan Keatings ever improving fitness levels we will have a great depth to select from in the summer.
We feel we have a junior team who will be ready to take on the challenge of following in the footsteps of our previous teams and look to become champions of Europe. We hope this team will really lay down the marker for the next Olympic cycle.”
