1/8/12- North Greenwich Arena: Team GB’s Kristian Thomas and Daniel Purvis finished a historic 7th and 13th in the men’s all-around final; the best results for Great Britain since bronze in the 1908 London Games.

Kristian Thomas got off to a fantastic start on the floor, where he nailed his routine for a huge 15.566 and this form continued on pommel and rings where again he put in solid performances. He struggled however on the vault, where he went for a very difficult double piked Yurchenko, pulling it in too strongly and falling backwards. He didn’t let this discourage him however and he put in a strong performance on parallel bars and pleased the crowd with an outstanding display on the high bar to finish in 7th; the highest placing in men’s artistic gymnastics for GBR in over 100 years.

Daniel Purvis had a similar run to Kristian, although he started off on the pommel, he began clean and continued this through to the vault. Just after Kristian’s fall on the vault however, Purvis couldn’t quite hold his routine on parallel bars and also had to count a fall on the same rotation. He did however continue in the same fantastic fashion as Thomas and executed his high bar and floor extremely well to finish strongly in 13th place.

Kristian Thomas: "I couldn't be happier. I made a mistake on vault which may have cost me a medal but that happens, I take the positives away and feel very proud to have won an Olympic medal and finished the highest place for over 100 years, once again we've proved to the nation how strong we are. Tomorrow I'm going to take a well-earned rest day so my mind and body can recover, then it’s back to what I do best, working hard in the gym ready for vault final."

Dan Purvis: "I started really well but made a few mistakes, it’s never easy as you look for perfection and I didn't quite get that today. I'm disappointed now but I guess that just proves how much we've progressed to say that I'm not happy with one of our best ever results. I'm sure in a few days I'll sit back with my Olympic medal and realise how well we've done."
