2/8/12- North Greenwich Arena: Team GB’s Rebecca Tunney and Hannah Whelan finished 13th and 24th in the women’s individual all-around final.
Both GB girls began well on the beam and produced clean routines for a solid start and both shone on floor, performing fantastically to the home crowd. On the vault, Tunney executed a perfect double twisting Yurchenko to continue her good form. Unfortunately, Whelan going for the same vault landed awkwardly on her front and the judges decided she did not land feet first and awarded her 0. However, Whelan, as the true champion she is, put in one of the performances of her life on the bars to score 14.133 to finish her competition strongly. Tunney also produced the goods on bars getting one of her a highest scores to date, a 15.00.
Gabrielle Douglas (USA) took the overall title ahead of Victoria Komova (RUS) in silver and Aliya Mustafina (RUS) in bronze.
Rebecca Tunney: "It's been an amazing expereince here in London; the best week of my life. To compete at a home Games in front of this crowd has been incredible. To be the youngest in Team GB i'm very proud and i've learnt so much. The rest of the Games i'm looking forward to the atmosphere and cheering on Team GB."
Hannah Whelan: "Im devastated, i don't know what happened on vault, i think i had too much adrenaline going into it. I'm so proud of Rebecca though, the whole team have done so well here and we are all looking forward to supporting Beth in bars final on Monday."
Rebecca Tunney- Total 56.932 (13th)
Hannah Whelan- Total 41.999 (24th)
