Francesca Jones328

9/8/12- Wembley Arena: Team GB’s individual rhythmic gymnast, Francesca Jones finished in 21st place with a score of 48.750 after day one of the rhythmic individual qualifications, with the Team GB Rhythmic group of Louisa Pouli, Rachel Smith, Jade Falkner, Lynne Hutchison, Georgina Cassar and Francesca Fox finishing in 11th with 24.150.

In the individual competition, the gymnasts perform four different routines with four different pieces of apparatus; today we saw the hoop and the ball. Francesca Jones was up fourth with her ball routine and received great support from the crowd. She produced a fantastic routine with beautiful choreography to start very nicely with 24.550. This form and confidence continued in her hoop, where she excelled and delighted the crowd with another clean, strong performance for 24.200 and 21st place.

In the group competition, the first day of competition saw the 12 teams competing with five balls. The GB group looked confident with big smiles as they walked into the arena and their performance reflected this, they didn’t put a foot wrong and performed beautifully for 24.150 and 11th place on day 1.

Francesca Jones: “I've been working so hard for this, particularly on my expression and hopefully it’s paid off in today's performances. For me, competing at the Games is all about trying to inspire younger gymnasts and get people into our beautiful sport. The atmosphere today was overwhelming, I just feel so privileged to be a part of it. My routines went well, it’s not about where I place though, it’s about performing the best I can and I did that today. Now I’m looking forward to coming back tomorrow for more of the same."

GB group - Rachel Smith : "It's one of the best routines we've done and to do it out there as Britian's first ever Olympic group is amazing. The crowd were unbelievable and we just hope they enjoyed it as much as we did. It's our aim to get as many people as possible watching our sport and to raise the profile as much as we can during the Games."

Tomorrow (Friday 10th August), from 12pm, we will see Francesca Jones’s ribbon and club routines and the group will then perform their routine with three ribbons and two hoops on day 2 of qualifications.
