The 9th World Games in Cali, Colombia is the largest multi-sport event in 2013.
The World Games provide a unique setting for thousands of athletes from different sports and countries to join in a celebration of unity and friendship.
Many people call the Games "The Olympics for the non-Olympic sports/disciplines”. The Games are held quadrennially in the years following the Olympic Games but this is the first time that they will take place in South America. Athletes from 38 sports will compete over 11 days in Colombia’s third largest city, Cali, which hosts the multi-sport Games together with two other municipalities in the Cauca Valley, in western Colombia.
British gymnasts will compete in trampoline, acrobatic, tumbling and DMT events.
The trampoline event will see Olympian Kat Driscoll pair up with her long term synchro partner Amanda Parker, with Luke Strong and Nathan Bailey in the men’s competition. In the acrobatic event Britain’s 2013 champions have been selected with Alex Houston and Timothy Pritchard in men’s pair, Shanie-Redd Thorne and Danielle Jones the women’s pair, mixed pair Alice Upcott and Dominic Smith along with the women’s group of Georgia Lancaster, Elise Matthews and Millie Spalding. 2013 Tumbling British champions Kristoff Willerton and Rachael Letsche will also be action; with 2011 DMT British champion Peter Cracknell and 2013 champion Nicole Short completing the GBR line up.
