English Gymnastics awarded Sport England grant (2008)

English Gymnastics is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a 3-year grant of £2.14 million from Sport England to provide high quality gymnastics coaches in clubs throughout England.

In addition English Gymnastics wishes to commend the clubs, regional associations, technical committees and other partners who have worked tirelessly to raise £1.8 million of match funding to maximise the benefits of the programme. These partners have also committed the equivalent of £400,000 in volunteer hours in order to ensure the continued successful implementation of the Club and Coach Programme bringing the total value of the programme to £4.34 million.

All gymnastics clubs that are part of the Club and Coach Programme have already achieved or are working towards the British Gymnastics' GymMark quality accreditation.

English Gymnastics is committed to supporting the development of clubs and coaches who deliver to gymnasts of all ages and abilities.   This programme will increase the number of people taking up gymnastics as a sport, whilst also increasing the performance levels and achievements of those already taking part.

Mark Gannon English Gymnastics' Chief Executive said: "Gymnastics is a sport which is heavily reliant upon the network of people who deliver our sport in clubs and the English regions, many of whom give their time as volunteers and fulfil a variety of roles. This programme supports a crucial element of that delivery system, coaching. This programme will enhance the availability and capabilities of our coaches thereby providing further opportunity for those who wish to take part in gymnastics and for those who already do. It will also allow coaches to develop their skills through a variety of professional development opportunities and opportunities to share good practice"
