Olympic Bulletin - Day Three (2008)

olym085095.jpgThe Men's Team Final - China are Olympic Champions.

China produce the predicted Team Gold in their home arena, followed by Japan and the USA.

With a changed format from the qualifying 6-5-4 the Team Finals is an altogether different event. Same gymnasts but 3 competing and 3 to count makes for a sudden death scenario.

Short of any natural disaster, China was always going to be the Olympic Champions. Their preparations followed an altogether perfect model for most of the last decade.

Japan has the most exciting team, the USA the most photographed. The USA’s promotion and exposure of their team has an effect possibly more significantly on the team psychology than the physical performances.

At the end of rotation 3 China was 8 tenths behind the USA. When China completed Vault in the following rotation they went 8 tenths ahead.

For Russia, despair. For Germany, sadness, 2 major errors, one of those from superstar Hambuechen on the High Bar!

The USA gave everything at Pommels and secured a medal score, but they had to wait for Japan to finish before they knew it was Bronze. For Japan the Silver.

To keep the world waiting Zou Kai of China performed the longest routine on High Bar ever, there was nothing in the code that he left out.
China are the Olympic Champions.
