NB: 19/04/17  Alice Kinsella will replace Georgia-Mae Fenton in the GB line up after Georgia-Mae was injured during training. Alice flew out to Romania on Tuesday and will train today ready for the women's competition starting tomorrow.

Rio Olympians Claudia Fragapane, Becky Downie and Ellie Downie are joined by rising star Georgia-Mae Fenton (replaced by Alice Kinsella) in the Great Britain women’s artistic gymnastics team set for European Championship action in Cluj-Napoca (ROU) next week.

2014 and 2016 European bars champion Becky Downie (Notts), 2015 European Championships all-around bronze medallist Ellie Downie (Notts) and 2015 European Championships floor silver medal winner Claudia Fragapane (Bristol Hawks) all have significant major championship experience and will be aiming for more success in Romania. 16-year-old Georgia-Mae Fenton (East London) makes her senior major championships debut having placed 4th all-around and second on bars at the recent Gymnastics British Championships. Both Ellie and Georgia-Mae have been given the all clear by the British Gymnastics medical team after recent minor injury concerns.

Amanda Reddin, British Gymnastics Head National Coach for women’s artistic gymnastics said: “As the first major championships of the new Olympic cycle the European Championships present an opportunity to assess our gymnasts progress. Becky, Ellie and Claudia have all taken medals at World and European level and so will go in to the championships aiming for more success. For Georgia-Mae this is a well-deserved opportunity to test herself at the highest level.”

The 2017 European Championships take place in Cluj-Napoca (ROU) from April 19th to 23rd with competitions for all-around and individual apparatus titles. The men’s team has already been announced here.
