British Gymnastics to match all donations up to £25,000

British Gymnastics are delighted to announce that we will be matching every £1 raised by the British Gymnastics Foundation, for the duration of their crowdfunding campaign, up to a maximum of £25,000.

The Foundation have launched a crowdfunding campaign to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week, aiming to raise money to help expand their Love to Move programme across the UK, and you can now donate.

The Love to Move programme is aimed at getting older people moving and functioning better, with a view to improving the lives of those living with dementia. So far, more than 150 people have taken part in care homes and community settings in the UK, with positive changes to posture, movement and memory as well as the social engagement of those taking part already evident.

Age UK’s research found the programme to have demonstrable benefits in the physical, emotional and cognitive aspects of older people, with older people having mild to advanced forms of dementia appearing to benefit the most. Download the full research.

With over one million people in the UK estimated to be living with dementia by 2025 and with dementia affecting one in every six people over the age of 80, the Love to Move programme is trying to change that. With that in mind, British Gymnastics have agreed to match all donations up to a total of £25,000.

The money will be used to train more coaches, so that the programme can be expanded to more care homes in the UK, meaning more people will be able to benefit.

The Foundation have also made a booklet available as a free download with a number of the key exercises inside, allowing you to try the programme with loved ones in the comfort of your own home. Download the booklet.

Jane Allen, British Gymnastics CEO, said: “The British Gymnastics Foundation age and dementia friendly programme, ‘Love to Move’ is achieving remarkable results. We want more people to benefit and we want to see the programme expanded across the UK. It is fundraising that will make this possible and we want to show our support for the charity’s programme. We hope many other organisations who are keen to make a difference will join us and also show their support.”
