Claudia Fragapane has won floor bronze on the final day of the artistic gymnastics World Championships in Montreal. In a final full of drama Claudia powered to Britain’s second medal of the event following Max Whitlock’s pommel gold.
Claudia demonstrated all her skill and energy in her routine with some superb tumbling. Her first giant tumbling pass had so much power she had to really fight to stay on the floor but from there she was pretty much faultless. Combining the acrobatic skills with some beautiful dance work, straight from the Strictly studios, she scored 13.933 points matching her qualifying score. The gold went to Murakami of Japan and the silver to Carey from USA.
The bronze is Claudia’s first individual World medal. She was elated afterwards saying:"It’s absolutely incredible I really can’t believe it. I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me and helped me get to this point. I overstepped a bit on my first tumble and really had to work hard to stay in, that then made me really determined to make sure I nailed the rest of my routine. This is the most incredible moment of my life, I can’t stop smiling.”
