Izzy Songhurst is excited to take the step up to senior level as she competes for Great Britain at the trampoline, tumbling and DMT World Championships in Sofia later this week. Having had a stellar junior career that included being crowned 15-16 World champion in 2014 Izzy (pictured far left) now joins Kat Driscoll and Laura Gallagher in our women’s line up for the championships starting on Thursday.
Izzy said: “I’m really excited - it should be a great experience. I recently did a senior World Cup which was a great opportunity for me to compete at that level ahead of these Worlds. I’ve been working towards making the senior team ever since I was eligible and now the hard work has paid off. Ever since the end of my junior career it’s been a case of what do I now need to do to reach my end goal and get my senior routines ready. It a physiological step just as much as a challenge in terms of skills.
Being a part of the senior set up - staying at Lilleshall for three weeks for squads - it all takes some getting used to but the rest of the team and staff have been very supportive and made it easy and enjoyable.
I’m not massively focussed on a target score for the World Championships although I know the kind of mark I’m capable off. The main aim is to make the semi-final and to experience a team final.
It’s amazing to be part of the GB trampoline set up, the results from Rio have definitely helped our programme and it feels like a very positive environment to be involved in at the start of this new Olympic cycle.”
