At 17 years old, Jamie Lewis is one of a number of exciting prospects coming through the British Gymnastics ranks. After a stellar 2017, he returns to action this week alongside GB teammates Raekwon Baptiste, Jake Jarman, Pavel Karnejenko and Adam Tobin, as they head to America for the Junior International Team Cup.
Despite the competition coming so early in the year, Jamie was able to enjoy some downtime during the festive season but is focussed and ready for the challenges ahead: “Christmas time for me is one of the best times of the year because I get to try new skills, relax outside of competition and recharge the batteries for the year.
"My preparation for this competition has been difficult as it's the first of the year. I've been determined to have my routines ready and I've worked hard with little time off. I'm really looking forward to competing in America again and getting off to the best possible start to 2018."
After being crowned under 18 British all-around champion in March last year, Jamie went on to cap a stunning year by becoming European Youth Olympic all-around and rings champion after a number of brilliant routines in Gyor.
And the gymnast who trains at Woking Gymnastics Club is looking forward to what 2018 has to offer: "I had an amazing 2017, but I'm going to continue to work hard and hope to have an even better 2018. I'm massively looking forward to hopefully competing at this year's Junior European Championships in Glasgow.
"After that, I’ll be trialling with the seniors for the World Championships where I'm looking forward to training and competing with the best seniors in Great Britain. To learn from Max and Nile will be great and it's something I can't wait for."
Jamie will be in action on home soil at the 2018 British Championships from the 8th-11th March. Get your tickets.
