Olympic bronze medal winner Amy Tinkler and local star Dominic Cunningham will compete for Great Britain at the Gymnastics World Cup taking place at Arena Birmingham in March. Dom and Amy will replace Ellie Downie and Nile Wilson in the GB line up that also includes Claudia Fragapane and James Hall.
Dom, who trains at the nearby GMAC for the City of Birmingham gymnastics club said: “To compete for Great Britain in my home city is going to be incredible. Having the support of friends and family in the crowd makes a massive difference and I can’t wait to show them and the people of Birmingham what I can do. The Gymnastics World Cup is a huge event with the best gymnasts in the world so I’m honoured to be a part of it.”
Olympic bronze medal winner Amy added: “Wearing the Great Britain leotard is always an honour and to wear it competing in our home country is extra special. The Gymnastics World Cup line-up includes some of the best all-around gymnasts so it’s going to be a great competition. I know the British gymnasts will be doing everything we can to put in our best performances and hopefully with the home crowds support we can be on the medal podium.”
Ellie has been replaced as she recovers from an ankle injury which also keep her out of competing at the Commonwealth Games. Nile is replaced as a precaution ahead of competing at the Games .
The prestigious Gymnastics World Cup is an International Gymnastics Federation all-around event, which for the men includes the floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar whilst the women will battle it out on vault, uneven bars, beam and floor.
Tickets for both nights of the event are available now from www.gymnasticsworldcup.co.uk.
