With the European Championships beginning this week we caught up with City of Liverpool gymnast Lucy Stanhope who, after competing at the Commonwealth Games, is aiming to continue making her mark on the senior stage.
What’s it been like coming back from your first Commonwealth Games?
"It was amazing really. The whole experience of competing for Team England, I just enjoyed my whole time out on the Gold Coast. It made me realise even more what I can do as a senior gymnast, and coming back, it made me want to work harder to try and make the European team which is what I’ve done.
"I went to the Commonwealth Games for the team and this European’s is a team competition so it was the perfect preparation for this weekend in Glasgow."
What are your hopes for the weekend?
"I’m looking forward to gaining even more experience at a major event, which will stand me in good stead for the future. I’d love to go clean on my routines too and really contribute to the team."
What’s it like training and being around this team?
"It’s great! They’re really experienced so they help me along the way, which eases the nerves and makes things a lot easier. Training has gone well and we’re just excited to get on to the competition floor now."
And with the European’s being in Glasgow, what do you think it’ll be like with the home crowd behind you?
"I think it’ll be amazing. I won’t have competed on a stage like this before, with the home crowd behind me, so it’ll feel a lot different to what I’m used to. There will be so much more support, and I can’t wait to get out there and show what I can do."
