The top gymnastics nations in the world are expected to visit Birmingham next March to compete at the prestigious Gymnastics World Cup.
World-class gymnasts from the best nations will compete at the Genting Arena on Saturday 23rd March 2019. In the men’s event Russia, China, Japan, USA, Brazil, Netherlands and Switzerland will face host nation Great Britain. The women’s event will see the USA, Russia, China, Canada, Brazil, Japan, France and Germany compete alongside GB in the most exciting gymnastics competition of 2019.
Each competing nation will select one male and one female gymnast for the world cup event with Great Britain. Countries are expected to announce their gymnasts in the New Year.
Birmingham-born gymnast Joe Fraser is excited to see the world’s best gymnastics nations and talent heading to his home city for this outstanding competition.
Fraser said: “The opportunity to face some of the most exciting and talented gymnasts in the world in my home city is very exciting. The Gymnastics World Cup is an incredible event, and with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games taking place only a year later, this gives the British team a chance to take on the world’s best on home soil.”

This year’s event will see the men’s and women’s events staged on the same day, which provides an incredible opportunity for the Midlands ‘major event’ fans to see the very best gymnasts in one day of spectacular action.”
British Gymnastics Chief Executive Jane Allen said: “This is a brilliant event for our gymnasts who get to compete in front of a passionate crowd and who want to attend this family-friendly event on Saturday 23 March. Birmingham is one of the key heartland areas for gymnastics in the UK and is the ideal location for our gymnasts to take of the world’s best.”
Part of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Cup Series, the World Cup travels the globe with four major events staged across four leading nations. 2019’s competitions with take place in Greensboro, USA and Stuttgart in Germany before heading to Birmingham ahead of the final event in Tokyo, Japan.
Nations compete to be crowned World Cup winners, with each individual event securing vital points on the leader board. Medals are awarded at each event, with gymnasts also picking up ranking points in the hope of being crowned the World Cup series champion.
The format of this year’s Gymnastics World Cup has altered from last year’s schedule, with both the men’s and women’s competitions being staged on Saturday 23rd March. The men’s competition will commence at 13:00 and finish at 16:05 with the women’s events kicking off at 18:30 and finishing at 21:15.
Tickets are now on sale for the 2019 Gymnastics World Cup with individual session or joint tickets for the men’s and women’s competitions along with group and family tickets available.
