International rhythmic success for British gymnasts


Our British rhythmic gymnasts took to the medal podium with encouraging performances in international competition at the weekend.

At the Pecs Cup in Hungary the Great Britain junior group took the silver medal with a score of 21.800 points. Individually across the categories Marfa Ekimova took bronze all-around scoring 37.250 points and also gold with ribbon (13.050) and bronze with ball (12.150) whilst Saffron Severn also placed third all-around in her category scoring 37.750, along with rope silver (10.800) ball bronze (13.400) and clubs bronze (13.550).

Alida Bogdanova then made it three all-around bronze medals for Britain scoring 51.850 in the senior event along with hoop bronze (12.500), ball silver (13.500) and ribbon silver (13.100).

Elsewhere we had two gymnasts - Alice Leaper and Christiana Vitanova - competing at the prestigious FIG World Challenge Cup in Guadalajara. Christiana scored 14.300 with hoop, 13.750 ball, 12.400 clubs and 11.500 with ribbon for a 51.950 all-around total. Alice scored 9.850 for hoop, 11.850 ball, 12.700 clubs, 12.750 ribbon (47.150 all-around).

The rhythmic gymnastics action continues this weekend with the Irini Cup in Greece with individual juniors (Erin McIntosh, Elizabeth Popova, Leyla Yilmaz) and a junior group (Rachael Allen, Liza Breykin, Phoebe Haughton, Isabella Lyons and Tyana Reid) competing for Great Britain.
