The 2019 European Games are underway in Minsk, Belarus with the first of our Team GB gymnasts competing over the weekend.
The first gymnastics action at Minsk Arena saw our acrobatic women’s group of Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands compete in the dynamic, balance and combined events.
Competing against some very experienced groups they got underway by placing 8th in the balance final scoring 25.860, with an unfortunate error in a balance early on in their routine proving costly. They followed up well with a very entertaining James Bond themed routine in the dynamic final to finish in 5th place with a score of 27.680 points.
On day two the group returned for the combined final and impressed with their combination of balances, their dynamic movement and plenty of creative ‘throws’ of top Chloe who is the youngest member of Team GB. The group scored 28.200 for 6th place.
Summing up their European Games experience Erin said: "It’s been incredible - the biggest competition we’ve ever done. Being in the village and with all the other sports and then competing in front of a full crowd has been amazing."
Sacha said: "We’re really happy to end on such a good routine. We were disappointed with our mistake in balance on day one but are proud to have recovered so well, it’s been a great experience."
Looking ahead Chloe said: "We’ve learnt so much and it’s given us a lot of confidence. We have the British Championships next and we’re going to be working really hard to try and up our difficulty and perfect our execution. This experience has just given us lots more motivation to improve even more."
Today (Monday 24th June) sees our trampoline and aerobic gymnasts begin their European Games.
