The crowds began queuing 2 hours before the competition began, eager to get the best seats in the house for the 2009 British TeamGym Championships in Gloucester's, GL1 leisure centre.
With the Primary, Junior and Senior sections throughout the day, this sport really gives the spectator a chance to see the progression in gymnastics skills, from the wide-eyed enthusiasm of the young stars to the slick, beat-perfect routines of the Seniors.
The multifaceted TeamGym set up of floor, trampette and tumble makes for exiting viewing with a wide combination of gymnastics elements on display, the fact that it is a Team competition just adds to the friendly atmosphere. The selection of banners in the crowd indicated the great mix in clubs attending the event, with Crewe & Nantwich, OLGA, Scarbrough and Tolworth amongst the many clubs proudly displaying their signs of support.
Keith Hughes, TeamGym Technical Committee Chair was rightfully happy with the event: “We are delighted that once again we have seen a superb competition and some great gymnastics. The standard keeps on improving year after year, with the Primary gymnasts in particular showing great promise. As always, the judging, official’s and overall organisation have been superb, and made for a really enjoyable event.”
