Men’s Artistic Symposium Interview – Bobby Crutchley Interview

BobbyCrutchley
On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th January, we will be hosting a Men’s Artistic Performance Pathway Symposium for aspiring performance coaches at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. The weekend will be made up of practical and theoretical workshops, filled with coaching insight from speakers in and out of the gymnastics community.

Bobby Crutchley, Performance Coach Developer for British Gymnastics is one of the speakers confirmed for the weekend. Alongside Bobby we will have FIG accredited international judge, Gheorghe Predescu, Head Men’s Coach at the City of Birmingham Gymnastics Club, Lee Woolls and 10-time major championship medallist, Kristian Thomas. We spoke to Bobby to get his thoughts on the upcoming event.

With Kristian announced to be speaking at the symposium, how do you feel the coaches will benefit hearing from a double Olympian and translate this into the work they do in their clubs?

"As coaches know, the most important people to listen to are our athletes. As one of Great Britain’s most successful ever gymnasts, Kristian will give those attending a unique insight into his career. His reflections on what worked for him and how he would have changed things will be incredibly valuable to the coaches as they prepare their gymnasts at the beginning of their journey."

We also have Lee Woolls delivering practical workshops off the back of Joe Fraser’s success at the recent World Championships. How do you feel this knowledge will benefit coaches looking to develop their skills?

"Keeping up-to-date is critical for any coach looking to work in competitive gymnastics. The opportunity for coaches to hear from Lee, allows them to learn from one of those coaches leading the way at the cutting edge of the sport."

Finally, what message would you give to any coaches currently considering whether to attend the symposium?

"The Men’s Artistic Symposium is not only a fantastic opportunity to hear from an amazing group of speakers, it allows coaches a rare opportunity to take stock, reflect on their own current coaching practices and connect with other coaches - all features that are essential to help coaches develop."
