Club Information

What are you doing to help clubs at this time?
We have developed a dedicated web page that brings together as much guidance as possible on the following topics;

  • Health & safety
  • Employment
  • Examples of club messages to members
  • Government assistance
  • FAQs

This can be found by clubs who login to the following page; https://www.british-gymnastics.org/clubs/club-support/corona-virus-updates

This content will change as government advice changes so please bear with us as things are changing rapidly.

Will British Gymnastics be offering financial assistance to clubs?

Our team will help to provide direction to clubs about the financial support that is available. The government has recently announced new financial measures designed to help businesses and individuals. As well as this, Sport England are also working to give organisations access to potential grants and financial aid. As these measures and the associated criteria are quite complex, we will be pulling together some guidance on this to help clubs understand what is available to them.

Is there anything specific I need to know as a business and employer?
The government has provided guidance for employers, employees and businesses on GOV.UK

Eventcancellations

You've cancelled British Gymnastics events up until the end of June. Do you expect to cancel others too?
There is a possibility other events could be affected, but we cannot speculate on what might happen in the future. The cancellations up until the end of June haven’t been taken lightly. We’ve based our decision on current advice and guidance from experts and the government and wanted to be proactive in tackling the spread of coronavirus and protecting our gymnastics family, their families and the wider community.

We’ll continue to monitor that guidance and its impact on our events. We will always prioritise communicating any further changes or cancellations to you as soon as possible and we urge you to check our social media channels and website for updates.

This has been a fast-moving environment and we had planned to maintain our programme of events where possible, while monitoring the guidance and advice of the World Health Organisation, Public Health England, local and national government. However, with the advice regarding mass gatherings, widespread international travel restrictions and social distancing we have concluded the FIG World Cup cannot take place on 28th March and as such have taken the decision to cancel this event and all British Gymnastics national events until end of June as a precautionary measure.

What happens if an event is cancelled?
We’re mindful of the financial impact cancelling events has on our gymnasts, coaches, judges, volunteers and spectators. We’re also mindful of the impact cancellation has on qualification and grades. We’re working closely with the technical committees and other parties to understand the process to resolve the challenges this brings.

FIG World Cup
For the World Cup, 28th March at Arena Birmingham you will need to contact the Ticket Factory who will refund the ticket value to the original payment method. Please refer to their website for more information.

Artistic British Championships
For British Championships 16th – 19th April, the M&S Bank Arena will process all refunds. Ticket holders will receive an email and a refund will be sent to their bank account within 5-7 working days. Please refer to their website for more information.

All other British Gymnastics national events
For other British Gymnastics national events refunds will be available. Your refund will be automatically made to you via the original payment method and payee. You don’t need to do anything. Please bear with us at this incredibly busy time. We will process refunds as soon as possible.

Can I claim compensation for my travel and accommodation costs for cancelled events?
We would advise everyone booking travel or accommodation to be mindful of the terms and conditions on their bookings, including cancellation charges and refunds. We cannot provide compensation for any travel and accommodation cancellation costs incurred.

Will you be rescheduling cancelled events?
The current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing and we are not rescheduling events as this will prove too difficult in the current climate. We will be providing further updates to anyone affected in terms of qualification and grades as soon as we can.

Why are you cancelling all events up until June?
We have made the decision to cancel all national events until the end of June in the hope this decisive action will remove uncertainty within the gymnastics community and take the pressure off regions, clubs, coaches, gymnasts and volunteers. We hope removing the pressure of preparing for these events will allow clubs to more effectively manage the challenges they are facing.

We understand and share the disappointment of everyone involved and affected by this decision. Our principal concern is with the health and wellbeing of our gymnasts, their families, staff, volunteers, officials, coaches and supporters.

Course cancellations

Why have you chosen to cancel educational courses and conferences?
We made this decision as a result of the further social distancing measures introduced by the government including the instructions to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible and to avoid non-essential travel.
