Update on outdoor activity in England and Northern Ireland

BGSwirl
Following the publication of our Step Forward Plan, mapping out the next steps in our response to COVID-19, we have updated our guidance as part of our first step of measures.

Since the start of lockdown, we have provided exclusive content to our registered clubs via our Coronavirus Support Page, as well as activities across our social media channels, and extended our insurance provision to help our member clubs create fun, engaging and safe sessions for their gymnasts to do at home.

Government guidelines for England and Northern Ireland now allow small groups of up to six people from different households to meet in outdoor spaces provided that social distancing guidelines are followed. This now gives clubs the opportunity to use British Gymnastics endorsed activity outdoors for small group sessions, up to six people (including the coach).

The permissible insured activity is limited to British Gymnastics endorsed programmes:

  • GymFIT
  • Jump into Gymnastics
  • Proficiency (specifically those made available during lockdown)
  • FUNdamentals
  • Activities centred around fitness, conditioning, and flexibility

In a recent communication to all clubs, we have set out the range of activities that are safe, and the measures they can put in place to ensure that this is done safely.

The safety, experience and wellbeing of gymnasts and all those involved in delivering gymnastics is our highest priority and we hope the option of doing small group activities outdoors will help in reconnecting our members in a face-to-face environment.
