With many clubs now back in their facilities, we understand that it can be challenging to adapt coaching to comply with the current restrictions. In response to questions and feedback from clubs, we are providing further guidance about the use of foam pits.
It is currently not understood how high the Covid-19 risk is when using the pits, or the scale that foam can transmit the virus. Samples of foam have been sent for analysis to assess the Covid-19 risk, and we are awaiting the results of this test.
We have allowed the limited use of foam pits at Lilleshall National Sports Centre for the elite gymnasts within the Performance Programme.
This is continually closely managed throughout the Covid-secure bubble currently in place at this facility and the Covid-19 Return to Training programme the elite gymnasts are currently working within.
With the recent increase in coronavirus cases throughout the UK and the introduction of many local lockdowns, we must remain cautious and do not feel now is the appropriate time to reintroduce the use of foam pits due to the potential risks involved. Once received we will be closely reviewing the results from the analysis on foam, alongside this whether the Covid-19 infection rates are increasing or decreasing. When any guidance on this matter changes, we will communicate this to our club community.
We would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding during this challenging and changeable time.
