Upon hearing the news, Julie said: "I am thrilled and very honoured. I have enjoyed every single moment being part of a great club which has been very much at the heart of the community in Merthyr Tydfil. Little did I know all those years back when I was asked to help would it lead to this. I have met so many wonderful people over these years at the club and have seen gymnasts return with their children and even their grandchildren."
British Gymnastics Board member, Sara Sutcliffe, who is also the Chief Executive of Table Tennis England, has also been recognised with an MBE for her services to table tennis. Sara joined the Board as a non-executive director in February 2013 and she has worked across sport for the past 20 years, operating in roles with the British Olympic Association and GB Taekwondo.
