England only: Tier 1, 2 and 3 guidance for gymnasts and clubs

BGSwirl
Yesterday Sport England issued more information and FAQs related to the impact the new ‘Covid-19 Alert Area’ restrictions will have on sports. Please find below the key points we believe affect gymnastics clubs.

There are some new restrictions that do impact indoor individual sports, however under 18s are exempt from these restrictions.

We will support clubs as much as we can as things progress and change. Please always consult the advice of your local area as it may vary greatly from the restrictions placed on clubs nearby.

Tier 1 - Medium Risk

  • Activity continues under the Covid-secure guidance outlined in the Step Forward Plan
Tier 2 – High Risk
  • Activity for under 18s and disabled participants can continue under the Covid-secure guidance outlined in the Step Forward Plan.
  • Activities part of the Team Sport Framework Action Plan can continue for under 18s and disabled participants.
  • Parent and toddler sessions can continue under the Covid-secure guidance outlined in the Step Forward plan.
  • Elite sport is exempt from these new restrictions. We have updated our Elite Training Guidance, with all clubs in England receiving this via email today (Friday 16th October). This includes what an ‘elite’ gymnast is defined as. Please note that these are subject to change if guidance changes.
  • For people not in the groups listed above, the rule of six will no longer apply and all activity will need to be limited to a single household or support bubble.
Tier 3 – Very High Risk
*Restrictions in Tier 3 are similar to those in Tier 2. The difference being that local councils can put additional restrictions in place, such is the case in Liverpool. Prior to local councils adding extra restrictions, these are the guidelines set by the UK Government;
  • Activity for under 18s and disabled participants can continue under the Covid-secure guidance outlined in the Step Forward Plan.
  • Activities part of the Team Sport Framework Action Plan can continue for under 18s and disabled participants.
  • Parent and toddler sessions can continue under the Covid- secure guidance outlined in the Step Forward plan.
  • Elite sport is exempt from these new restrictions. We have updated our Elite Training Guidance, with all clubs in England receiving this via email today (Friday 16th October). This includes what an ‘elite’ gymnast is defined as. As we begin to see more regions moving to Tier 3 restrictions, with Lancashire the latest to be confirmed, we would encourage everyone to check local guidelines as these may vary for each region. For example, in Liverpool, only under 18s, disability and elite are exempt.

More information relating to restrictions for Tier 1, 2 and 3 can be found on the Sport England website.

For those missing out on gymnastics because of the new restrictions, we are incredibly sympathetic to your situation. Please know that we are continuing to lobby Government to ensure that you can return as soon as possible.

If any of the guidelines change, we will provide an update.
