The British Gymnastics Positive Coaching eLearning course is to be made available to 49 countries across Europe.
Following an Executive Committee meeting of European Gymnastics, it was decided that the course would be a benefit to all member federations and should be made available to all countries and coaches.
European Gymnastics said: “We aim to actively encourage a positive gym culture. We believe that the Positive Coaching course, created by British Gymnastics, will benefit our member federations.
“We are impressed by the ease of use of the modules. It offers an attractive way to communicate the important message of positive coaching to all coaching levels, from basic gymnastics for all to the high-performance level.”
The course was launched in Britain in August last year and has since seen more than 6,500 level 2+ coaches complete the online programme.
It’s free to all coaches that are level 2 qualified and above, and is also compulsory, with the course focussing on the important topic of safe participation for everyone in gymnastics. It aims to raise awareness on how different belief systems impact coaching behaviours and the coach-participant relationship.
The roll out of the course across Europe will be targeted at coaches and will be translated into both French and Russian.
Kathryn Bonner, Head of Education at British Gymnastics said: “The feedback we’ve had from the gymnastics community since making the course available has been brilliant. We’re delighted that European Gymnastics feel the same. To know that this course will now reach more people can only benefit the sport.”
