European Youth Olympic Festival
24/07 - The British Gymnasts did Team GB proud in the apparatus Finals at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Finland, with Sam Oldham leading the way with 2 Gold’s
Sam won the Pommels and Parallel Bars finals in a superb performance against some of the best Junior’s in Europe.
Teammate Max Bennett took Gold the final event of the competition, securing the High Bar title with Sam finishing in 5th. Nicole Hibbert won the fourth medal for GB, finishing with a Bronze in the Bars Final.
Britain’s other finalist, Cameron Mackenzie, finished in 8th on Pommels.

Cameron Mackenzie finished in 5th place and Sam Oldham 9th in the Men’s all-round final.
Mackenzie scored 79.500 and Oldham 77.750. Russia’s David Belyavskiy took the Gold with a winning score of 82.150
In the Women’s all-around, Jenni Pinches finished 10th (53.100) and Nicole Hibbert in 13th (51.500). Russia’s Victoriya Komova won the Gold with 57.300 points.
Team GB’s three male gymnasts got their EYOF participation under way by finishing fifth in the team event, which was won by the outstanding Russians.
Sam Oldham and Cameron Mackenzie were ranked sixth and fifteenth overall respectively and therefore qualify for the all around individual finals on Thursday. Max Bennett ranked twentieth, also made the twenty-four man cut, but will not compete in the final due to the two places per nation rule.
The British girls also finished in 5th place in their Team competition, with Russia again leading the way. Nicole Hibbert (6th) and Jenni Pinches (11th) got through to the all-around final; Danusia Francis also made the top 24 in (19th)
Numerous apparatus finals for the boys and girls mean that medal opportunities are still high.
