The Club Stakeholder Advisory Group is made up of 10 representatives. Its role is to offer advice and guidance to the Board on key club related matters at a strategic level.
This group is made up of members from across the country, with varying roles in our community, including club owners, coaches, judges and tutors. From participation up to high performance, this group also represents recreational and performance clubs working in the various disciplines in our sport.
The Chair of the Club Stakeholder Advisory Group is Non-Executive Director, Alastair Marks. The group is also supported by Executive Director, Ryan Fulford.
The staff at British Gymnastics are passionate about doing the best they can for Gymnastics. The 8 teams and their functions can be seen on the organisational chart which can be downloaded here. We all work towards common goals from the Strategic Plan; however, below we have provided a whistle stop tour of what each team does.
Technical & Education
The Education team deliver high quality and inspirational education opportunities for coaching, judging and volunteering in gymnastics. Investment is made in the provision of relevant and progressive learning experiences by way of formal qualifications and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) that will enhance knowledge and understanding at every level.
Workforce Development Co-ordinators are based in each English Region, Wales and Northern Ireland to set up a rolling programme of courses and provide support to the current and potential gymnastics workforce
This is the arm of British Gymnastics that looks after our elite athletes. An experienced and skilful team of Technical Directors, National Coaches, Programme Managers and Support Staff drive the technical content of our High Performance programmes. This includes National Development Plans that instruct coaches how to develop high level performers through different age specific programmes leading to the competition pathways. They also select National Teams and deliver National squad trainings, make arrangements for travelling delegations; attend to the medical needs and rehabilitation of athletes and look after the performance programmes for all competitive disciplines. The Performance department work hand in hand with Education to ensure our coaches are exposed to “World’s Best Practice” information and techniques to keep them at the forefront of modern gymnastics.
The Events team work 24/7 to put on some of the best Gymnastics Competitions and spectaculars in the world. From British Championships in all disciplines to prestigious Internationals including World and European Championships, the British Gymnastics Events staff ensure that our Gymnasts get the very best competitive experiences. ‘BG Score’ has been developed internally to provide live scores at competitions and is now available on the new ‘BG App’ creating interest from around the world.
Business & Development
Our vibrant and passionate development team are locally based out in the field. They are there to support 2 distinct strands of gymnastics;

Marketing & Communications
The Marketing & Communications team use the latest digital media channels to drive informative and timely communications and promotion of the sport. Our in-house team provide a range of services including, graphic design and brand application, media and public relations and multi-media production. Keeping members, fans and stakeholders well informed, the team provides unprecedented social media coverage, live video streaming from domestic and international events and the latest updates via e-newsletters, e-zines and the web site.
British Gymnastics works with a host of commercial organisations in order to grow and enhance the sport. Working with ‘Commercial Delivery Partners’ including Leisure Management Groups, for example DC Leisure, GLL & Virgin Active, enables us to increase participation as well as raising and maintaining the standards of teaching and learning outside of the club environment. We also actively engage ‘Official Sponsors and Licensees’ in partnerships to raise the profile of the sport and their respective organisations creating opportunity for further investment in Gymnastics.
The Customer Service department at British Gymnastics is here to help, support and advise clubs and members on any aspect of their membership, whether they are just getting started or are already involved in this exciting sport. Our Pledge is that we will work with clubs and members to help them achieve their ambitions, responding quickly, effectively and with clear communication. Corporate Services supports the smooth running and progression of departments, projects, processes and people; and ensures that the organisation meets its commitment to a range of strategic priorities, standards and stakeholder expectations.
This Directorate consists of Planning, Research, Equality, Ethics & Welfare, Health & Safety, Human Resources, Information Technology and Finance. The team includes a number of professionals and specialists who contribute to and support the organisation’s continual programme of progression and modernisation.
Since its establishment in 2010 some of the significant projects undertaken by the team include: the unification of corporate strategic priorities; job evaluation and the introduction of a full cycle performance management framework; the introduction of a self-service open accounting system; and a new and dynamic IT systems development programme to enhance systems and web capabilities and support e-commerce and on-line member services.
The Ethics & Welfare team provide safeguarding support and advice to Parents, Gymnasts, Coaches and Clubs ensuring that our duty of care as a Governing Body is fulfilled and most importantly, gymnasts are kept safe.
The British Gymnastics Board of Directors set the strategy for the organisation. They regularly consult with staff, committees, clubs, coaches and volunteers to ensure that British Gymnastics remains a vibrant and progressive governing body.
British Gymnastics unifies the 4 Home Countries, the Isle of Man, 10 English Regions, over 1200 affiliated Gymnastics clubs, over 8,500 active coaches and an incalculable number of dedicated volunteers across the UK.
British Gymnastics Staff work across 3 Directorates, Sport, Corporate & Community Services and Strategy & Commercial Operations.
The Sport Directorate focuses on organising competitive opportunities at all levels; influencing capacity creation in clubs, lead on targeted gymnastics activities, creating a solution for all abilities; and developing talent, ensuring continual world class success.
The Strategy & Commercial Operations Directorate focuses on providing insight and analysis to enable the organisation to understand trends, opportunities and challenges, and provide the foundation to effective solutions; leading the organisation commercially: involving oversight of product management, the identification of new market opportunities, assessing product range and pricing, and directing marketing operations.
Corporate & Community Services Directorate have 2 main focuses, the Purpose of Corporate Services is to support the other 2 Directorates, under pinning the business with support in IT, Finance, Human Resources, Learning & Development and Safeguarding & Compliance. The Community Services area is there to provide support to our gymnastics community across Customer Service, Education and Volunteering. We are focussed on a number of outcomes; providing excellent service and support to our members and clubs, increasing the quality and quantity of coaches; and connecting and supporting the network of volunteers and officials that keep our sport growing.
