This is an exciting NEW blended course, made up of face-to-face practical and online learning. It aims to provide you with the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to safely develop a broad range of DMT skills, including double somersaults. You will also explore key discipline-specific topics such as how to develop an effective approach to the DMT, routine construction, and injury prevention.

This course forms part of the NEW Development Coach (DMT) accreditation; a programme of learning which consists of the completion of two key aspects:
- Level 3 Coaching Theory
- Development Coach Practical Course (DMT)

Who is this Aimed at:

This course is for those wishing to coach more challenging syllabus skills and routines. To enrol on this course, you must: 

- Have attended (as a minimum) or hold the Level 3 Coaching Theory qualification (or equivalent).

- Hold the DMT Club Coach (Cycle 5, 6 or 7) or one of the pre-requisite awards as outlined in the pre-requisites tab.

- Be 18 years of age.

What To Expect:

This is a blended course with the following components:

1. 2-days face-to-face practical:
- Day 1: 8 hours
- Day 2: 8 hours 

2. Online self-paced learning accessed via BG Academy

3. Practical assessment (including a video submission of coaching in own environment)

Do I Need To Bring Participants:

Yes, you are required to provide gymnasts for both the course and assessment. You will need to bring 2 gymnasts who are either working towards the syllabus skills or can already perform them.

Do I Need To Find A Mentor:

You do not need a Mentor to complete this course and assessment. However, we support seeking guidance from more qualified and experienced coaches in your discipline to aid your development through the course, assessment and after.

Outcomes:

This course aims to provide learners with the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to safely and effectively develop skills on the DMT Development Coach Syllabus.

Specifically, the course will:
- Provide information on the prerequisite and physical preparation requirements of the skills on the syllabus.

- Clarify the key biomechanical principles and subsequent techniques that underpin skills on the syllabus.

- Identify a range of safe and approved progression and methodical exercises that can be used to develop skills on the syllabus.

- Explore how to select appropriate progression and methodical exercises based on the gymnasts’ needs and the context the coaches work in.

- Provide opportunities to practice key progression and methodical exercises and manual supporting techniques.

- Clarify appropriate full skill manual supporting techniques.

- Explore key discipline-specific topics such as developing an effective approach to the DMT, routine constructions and planning and periodisation for DMT.

- Provide opportunities to raise learner awareness regarding personal strengths and areas for improvement.

- Ensure learners feel equipped to develop skills from the syllabus with their gymnasts, and that they have support from their course tutor and British Gymnastics to prepare for their assessment.

Learner must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the course

The assessment for this course has two parts:

  1. Submission of a Skill Development video recorded in your own coaching environment prior to your practical assessment.
  2. Face-to-face practical assessment lasting approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.
